Can I put holes in the wall on a rental unit?

Susan B asked:

I’m renting an apartment in a few weeks and would like to know your opinion on whether I can hang a heavy pot rack in the kitchen. It will require molly bolts to hold the pot rack secure. I know that this would not be a typical wall hanging, but would it be OK if I was sure to smooth over the holes and paint when I move? The same question goes for Roman Shades in the windows. Now there are cruddy Venetian blinds, and I would like to replace them with Roman Shades that have hardware inside the window frame. I would leave the neutral (tan/beige) shades when I left, and also save the crummy Venetian blinds, so actually they would be getting a good deal on the blinds. Should I ask my landlord first? I’m afraid he’ll say no the to potrack, and I really want to hang it. Does anyone really know what I can do and can’t do in a rented apartment as far as hanging things goes? I’d sure appreciate your input on this. Warm regards.

Lois

Is there window hardware out there for bay windows?

BabyQuestions asked:

I’m looking for a curtain rod that is maybe designed to go all the way around the octagon shape. Any suggestions on what to do with bay windows? I have faux wood blinds already but I’m thinking of putting a roman shade over them for even more blackout and to add some color. Not sure if I want long curtains as my young ones will hang on them.

How much should I give her?

resq-girl asked:

I want to hang a roman shade in the kitchen. I went to the fabric store to pick out the fabric but the problem is I don’t know how to sew and it costs a fortune to have curtains made. A met a girl there that was so nice and offered to make it for me. She just started doing this herself and just made her first roman shade for her house. She really enjoys doing this and said it would be no problem. When I asked how much she will charge she said I don’t have to give her anything but I can if I like them. I will drop the supplies and fabric off at her house and she will have them ready for me the next day. I want to pay her but just don’t know what is fair. How much should I pay her for her kindness?

Michelle T asked:

We just bought a new house and there are two set of french doors that I am struggling to cover. We definately want privacy, and I am not a fan of the gathered sheers. Thought about Roman shades but wasn’t sure about attaching a curtain rod directly to the door. And am trying to keep with in our budget…customs aren’t an option! PLEASE HELP!!!

We have navy blue roman shades on our windows and light blue carpeting. What color should we paint the walls? And what them should we do?
